Tales of the Unknown

The sea looks calm tonight, calmer than it’s ever been. I stand here on the shore, waiting. I’m not sure for what yet. I lived on this island for as long as I can remember. My animal friends help me live here. They tell me when a storm is coming and where to hide during the storm. Then again, it gets lonely being the only human here. But I do remember something from before I came to this island, a boy, with a fish tail saved me. Now that I think about it seems like only a dream, but it felt so real. I stand here waiting for him, to see if he’s real. Eventually, I’ll make a raft out into the ocean to find him. But I get the feeling that he’s going to come.
I hike on a familiar trail to find my fresh water source, that’s when I heard it, a splash. I ran over there to see only the ripples and a flash of red. That kept me up at night. I was wondering if there’s more to this island than I thought. It does have a magical aura around it.
That night, the moon was large and bright as it normally is, but, I saw a shooting star, followed by a comet! It was a brilliant one too! The tail was a shining blue color. I felt like I saw the comet before, in a dream or distant memory. That’s when I heard a voice, calm and soothing, singing in the night traveling with the wind. The voice was a male’s voice, a beautiful one at that, as beautiful as the shining stars on the ocean. It was as clear as the water in the lagoon like a flute being played by the world’s best flute player. Before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, what woke me was a splash, a loud one at that too. I turned quickly out of my tree house window, and I saw a flash of a brilliant aqua blue color and a bit of blond hair with a blue green tint to it. It swam away quickly. About 30 seconds passed and I saw a woman with a child walking to the crabby cove to collect food. I heard the woman say, “may the gods bless this food we have.” The child was still too young to understand, I guess. Her blond hair shimmered like gold in the sun, her emerald eyes gleamed with kindness.
I went down a familiar trail to this lake I found and had incredibly strong feeling that I was being watched. I turned and saw a phoenix. It’s eyes reminded me of a ruby. It was beautiful. Then I heard another splash, and I saw another flash of red and a silhouette of a red tail.
Later on that day, I went out into the woods to find some fruit and I saw a silver ice bird. It’s eyes like a light aqua sky color. All too quickly it flew away. I turned and saw an archer. Holding the silver bird on her arm. She noticed me and gave me a simple nod, followed by a smile, and went on her way. She melted into the woods. I’m wondering if I’m seeing things.
Later at night I saw the woman again but she was with a man with a crystal sword. Which I found odd. She has silver arrows why would he bring his sword? I turned away for split second and, they were gone. The sun set was beautiful. Then I saw the phoenix again. Flying up into the heavens. Then, I saw another bird. It looked exactly like the phoenix but with a different coloration. The first phoenix was red and orange, the second one was white and a light yellow color. Then I heard the singing again. I soon drifted off to sleep.
I went by the bay and I heard voices. One said “Tang I will allow you on one condition, you will not….” Said one voice. “But dad I,” said another voice. “I said no” the first voice sounded a little harsher. That’s all I heard. I was wondering what it was. I saw the same aqua color again in the water. With the same blue, green, and blond hair combo.
I did some more exploring and found a cave and I saw that boy with the blue tail and blond, blue, and green hair. He looked at me curiously, as if he’s never seen a human before. The cave was lit up by beautiful white crystals. “Whoa” the moment I said that the boy jumped back into the water and swam away.
I went down to the lagoon again and I hear a voice talking to me.
“You’re not from here are you?” the voice said. I turned around quickly and saw a girl with a red fish tail and blue hair staring at me.
“uh, uh, uh I don’t know. I’ve lived here my whole life.” I stammered
“I’m not supposed to talk to you, my daddy won’t like this.” She said.
“Just who are you? What are you?” I asked
“My name is Shelby; I’m the princess of the fresh water bodies. My cousin is the merman you saw earlier today. His name is Tang, prince of the oceans and seas.” She said.
“So… you’re a mermaid?” I asked
“Yep,”
“You’re not supposed to talk to me.”
“Nope,”
“Yet, you’re doing it anyway”
“Yep,”
“Won’t your dad be mad?”
“Very,”
“SHELBY!!!!!!!!!” a man’s voice shouted
“Uh oh” she said “that’s my daddy. Judging by the tone of his voice, he found out I was up here again. We’re safe as long as he doesn’t find out that I’m talking to you”
I pointed behind her.
“He’s behind me isn’t he?”
I nodded slowly, cautious not to provoke him. He has a light tan skin with a red tail, medium long brown hair and brown eyes with the looks of a 21 year old, his trident is silver.
“Shelby, how many times have I told you not to surface?”
“About a million?” she answered timidly.
“What is your name?” he asked
“Suiteki” I replied.
“Suiteki?” he replied. “Interesting……”
Soon another mer-king came out, this one had short, 7 inch, bleach blond hair that was slightly purple, with blue eyes, blue tail, and a gold trident. His skin is a peach-pale and also has the appearance of a 21 year old.
“We need to go, they’re waiting for us.” Blond hair said.
“Tell them to start without me; I’ll come by in a minute.”
“No, we need you now.”
“Fine, Suiteki, I’ll …. Talk to you later. Shelby, come home, now.” Brown hair said
“Mmmmph, fine. Bye.” They dove back underwater. What’s their problem?
I walked back to the bay, and stared out into the ocean wondering about them. Mermaids? Mermen? Mer-People?! I ran to that cave again. That mer-boy wasn’t there. I guess his father doesn’t want him to talk to me yet. If not, at all. I walked back slowly; the sunset was very beautiful tonight. I wasn’t watching where I was going, so I tripped and scraped my knee. It hurt a lot. My jaguar friend heard me, and I showed him my wound. He left and came back with an herb in his mouth that sooth the pain and stopped most of the bleeding. I tried to get up, but it hurt a lot. Jaggy came back with a branch to help me walk. But there’s another problem, my house is up in the trees. So I slept in the jungle. Jaggy was there to keep me warm and made purring sounds to sooth me. The sound of the surf and rustling trees helped me sleep.
I woke up to a grim sight; my leg was covered in blood. The scrape must’ve reopened and bled overnight. Which is weird, I was laying on soft grass. I looked up. I was under a nut tree. That explained everything. Jaggy was still next to me. His back paw was covered in my blood. I could barely get up. My wound reopened again. It hurt a lot. I saw a fairy queen in the distance. I didn’t want to repeat that episode again. So I didn’t say anything.
I heard her come over to me. I was scared, terrified even, I wanted to get up and run, but any sudden movement from my leg would send up pain. She bent over my leg.
“That’s a bit of a scrape there.” She said kindly.
“Yeah.” I replied quietly.
“Don’t move. I’ll help you.” She said.
The woman began using herbs she found to sooth the pain on my leg and even killed all of the bacteria that were beginning to infect it. She didn’t look like that woman I saw in the coast a few days ago. This one had a light mahogany color hair down to her mid back, beautiful green eyes, and wore a simple green dress. She has a small gold leaf-crown on her head. Her wings shimmered with the different colors of the rainbow.
“You’re Suiteki, right?” she asked
“How do you know my name?” I asked.
“The time for secrets isn’t now.” She said. “Here, eat this. It might be bitter.”
I ate the leaf. It was bitter, but it completely stopped the pain.
“You worried about something?” she asked.
“Yes, there was this mer king, his daughter was talking to me and he got all mad and-“ I stammered.
“Marlin’s always like that around people. You should’ve seen him around his brother, Mako, the one I’m engaged too, the first time they met. It was quite humorous.” She said. “Oh, sorry, my name is Flora.”
“Ow.” I said.
“sorry.” Flora said.
She finished patching up my leg. When she did she looked at the ground.
“Wow that’s a lot of blood. I can fix it.” She used magic to restore the grass to its original color.
“How did you-” she stopped me before I can finish speaking.
“Let me carry you to your home.” She offered.
I tried protesting, but eventually I gave in. She’s surprisingly strong and managed to fly me home. She also provided me with food and water every day untill I was well enough to walk and climb again.
“Thank you Flora.” I said
“No problem. I like helping people.” She said, kindly.
“FLORA!!! WHERE ARE YOU??” A man’s voice shouted, almost flirty sounding.
“Oh, jeez, Mako, I forgot, I was supposed to go to the mer-kingdom with him to help him with a little problem. See you soon” she flew off quickly to help her friend.
Mako? I saw the blond hair and trident. It’s the same guy at the lake who told the brown hair guy that they needed to go. I think the brown hair guy was Marlin. My leg still hurts and it still hurts when I walk. Jaggy came up here. And I petted him, wondering what will happen next. I saw the archer again. She has silver and black archer armor and silver angel wings. Then, the warrior came again. He has spiked hair that’s a gold blond color and also has a flame like color to it. He turned around, I ducked quickly.
“And who might you be?” someone said.
I turned around, it was that warrior. He was hanging upside down on my ceiling.
“What are you doing up there?” I asked
“Yeah what are you doing up there?” another voice asked, it was the archer. Her eyes are a silver color.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Yeah, Luna, what are you doing here?” the warrior said mockingly.
“Same as you.” Luna said. “And why are you upside down?”
“Cause I can be. I know how to defy gravity.” He said flashing a know-it-all grin.
“We all can Ronin!! Well, almost all of us” Luna said glancing at me. “You need to leave”.
“Can both of you leave? I was about to sleep” I said
“You think you should be sleeping?” Ronin said, yawning, “I had little sleep last night.”
Luna slapped her hand on her fore head.
“When are you not ready to sleep? Yesterday, you woke up at 3:30 in the afternoon. I’m surprised Mako didn’t prank you.” Luna said
“Hah! He knows better than to prank me in my sleep. Last time he did that, I dumped a bucked of paint on his face. He’s still cleaning it out of his hair.”
“Is that why his hair was purple when I saw him?” I asked.
“Yes” Ronin said with a scowl on his face.
“Who are you?!” I asked.
“Nunya business” Ronin said with a snobby attitude
“Ronin, don’t be such a snob.”  Another voice said.
“Oh please, Hina.” Ronin said.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Getting my male counterpart out of here.” Hina said.
“Male counterpart?”
“My twin brother.” Hina said.
“Fraternal twin!” Ronin corrected.
“Ahem” another voice said. It was Marlin, again.
“Omigosh you have legs.” I said, stupidly.
He just stared at me with a scowl on his face.
“Marlin what are you doing here?! Shouldn’t you be somewhere like, oh I don’t know, YOUR MER KINGDOM?!” Ronin shouted.
“Be glad barnacle brain isn’t here”
“Who are you calling a barnacle brain?” Mako said. He was also hanging upside down.
“I’m not going to argue in front of you I need to go.” Marlin said, grouchily. He tripped on a board “ow”
“Have a nice trip” Ronin said.
“See ya next fall” Mako said.
They both started cracking up. Marlin got up and punched them both in the face and stormed off.
“What’s his problem?” I asked.
“Anger issues” they answered unanimously.
“Ronin and Mako tease him for that, a lot.” Luna said.
“Yep, I’m going home” Mako said. “I got a child to take care of, a kingdom to rule, and a lot of training to do.” Mako got down. He was about to walk, untill he tripped and fell on his face.
“Ooowwww, that hurt” he whined.
We just shook our heads at him.
“KARMA!!!” Marlin shouted.
“OH SHUT UP YOU, YOU, YOU,…….. FRESHIE!!!” Mako said.
Ronin face-palmed.
“Is that the best you can do? I know someone who can teach you all sorts of bad words.”
“Yeah, I know that.” Mako said. “He spews it at us every day”
“True” Ronin said.
“People, we really should go!! This isn’t our home” Hina said.
Eventually they left. I was so tired. All I could think of is taking a nap. I fell asleep, with the waves crashing in the background.
